The Jacket

This movie wasn’t all that bad. It is a Psychological thriller, that jumps around quite a bit. At first it was a bit hard to follow, but was very easy to peice together once the movie was over. Its good to watch those types of movies every once in a while, versus the ones that make you draw your own conclusion or watch it two or three times. ;)

This takes place as a Dessert Storm Vet gets committed to a phsych ward and unndergoes treatment. During this treatment he has visions which need to be answered as a matter of life or death.

I have joined MySpace.com, because it seemed pretty cool, and I know quite a few people that are on it already. Not much there yet, but I’ll get to it.

So if you are a member of MySpace, add me to your list!

And if your not a member, why not, its free!

Today, I got into a debate with my friend on who exactly defines when a genre of music or an artist is considered mainstream vs when they are more underground. Thir relates to a previous post that I made about dance music.

My thought is that if it is on a major label, it is made easily available to the masses (like Moby) but if it is not easily available to the masses, then it has gone underground. In my friend’s opinion, the dance scene going underground is a good thing, but in my opinion, it is not really a good thing based on the fact that it is a sign that it is losing steam.

But this can really apply to any band, fad, etc. Who does really draw the line between what is considered mainstream versus what is considered to be underground?

And is being underground a good thing?

Man, this next one just makes me laugh hysterically. Is it because I am frustrated, or because it is comical? Not sure on that one yet.

To make a long story, well, less long at least, I cannot and have been unable to connect to AOL since 1PM yesterday (yeah its Saturday already, but I started dealing with this problem at about 11, so its been going on for two and a half hours already.)

I can connect using the AOL software (which I have been trying to cancel for 4 months now, but every time I call to cancel they give me another free month!) and once in the software, I am able to connect to AOL.com, AIM.com, Netscape.com, AOLRadio.com, etc. But the problem is, I don’t want to run that awful software anymore, and I only agreed to this free month because I can now access pretty much every benefit I need from AOL.com. But now I can’t use that or the AOL Instant Messenger Service.

So tonight, I decided to upgrade to Windows XP Service back 2. The reason I hadn’t before is because there were so many people reporting problems, and it actually managed to destroy the hard drive on my stepdad’s computer about 6 months ago. So, I boldly tried to do this upgrade.

Everything started out fine, progress bars were moving (although slowly) and in about 45 minutes, my computer rebooted and finished the install. YAYAYAYA! Everything worked, right? No, that wouldn’t make for an interesting blog post now would it???

The system loads as normal, with only one problem. I can no longer connect to the internet using my wireless connection (A Linksys USB 802.11B)

But the best part is when I tried to troubleshoot the problem (it says my router wasn’t assigning it an IP address) it told me to go to microsoft.com’s knowledge base for information. Isn’t that like your phone company saying “if your phone isn’t working, call us”???

I understand there is alot of software involved, but don’t you think they would provide a help file that doesn’t involve going to a website at least for something such as the ability to connect to the Internet? I know your probably thinking to yourself “why not go to another computer” Well, those computers aren’t mine, and at the time the owners of said other computers in house were all fast asleep.

Ugg, but I’m sure it will get worse, as I haven’t been able to connect to any site hosted by AOL, or the AIM service since 1PM and I am also planning on calling them on that later tonight.

Computers are so much fun!

That is a question that I have asked myself as of late. After my shocking dixcovery on Sunday that one of the big vinyl shops is now basically dead (the live online) and the other one has been severly reduced due to declining sales. Today I found out that three of the big DJ’s from Minneapolis are moving to Seattle. So that starts me looking around. First Avenue has pretty much abandoned true dance for top 40 and hip hop “dance” nights (sorry, I don’t count that as dance) and The Quest has but one or two nights of dance music shoved into a back room (for that more intimate setting I guess).

And the person who got me into dance music, DJ “Big Daddy” Greg Comstock, has basically disappeared, and his website is gone. Gone also appear to be PD Spinlove, whom I didn’t really care for, but he did co host the dance nights with Comstock.

Three years ago, there was three or more dance nights at First Avenue, and two at The Quest (in the mainroom) and now if you want any dance music in Minnesota, it pretty much comes from Sound In Motion, which as of late has also run into some difficult times (or at least it appears with thier one not-so-steller event listed on the homepage).

It really makes me sad to think that once a great town for dance is now pretty close to being a major market without a dance record store or weekly hangout for dance music fans if things don’t change soon. And the genre is all but ignored on the FM dial here, with a specialty show on Saturday nights on the local community station being the only outlet left. Ten years ago, we had two dance shows on FM, on the alternative outlets formerlly known as Rev 105, and The Edge (93.7)

So that is why I ask this difficult question, that I hope leads to an answer of “no”.

XM just signed a deal with Napster to start selling MP3’s of programs heard on XM. In addition, they announced a player from Samsung which will be out this fall, that will work in conjuction. You will be able to listen to XM, and mark songs for purchase later, and when you hook the player up to your computer, it will display the songs in the Napster catalog so you can purchase them.

In addition, you will now also be able to purchase songs from the XM Radio Online player. Whats the next surprise from XM?

So I have been unemployed now for two workdays, and already the boredom has set in. I guess tomorrow I’ll really start actively looking for a job.

I’ve already posted my resume on all the major sites, and in the state database. Looked through the local paper today (very local actually) and they didn’t have anything within 3 towns, but they don’t usually have stuff anyways.
