Mood : busy

I had originally planned to do a podcast this week, but it does not look like that will happen.  With my birthday on Monday, and an overall hectc weekend, I just don’t have the time to do one this week, due to homework catching up with me.

Hopefully, I will be able to do one next week.

Renfest

08-29-07

So yesterday, I went to the MN Ren Fest, which was fun.  We got there a bit late, so we didn’t get to do a whole lot, but the Tortuga Twins was a great show once again this year.

The nice thing is, I got free tickets from someone who works down at the festival, so I didn’t have to pay the 20 bucks to get in.  All in all, it was a good cheap way to spend a few hours.

Anyways, today is my birthday, and I have plenty of homework to do, so I better get moving if I want to get that done before dinner guests arrive.

So, last weekend I went to what is refered to as above, the Minnesota State Fair.  I went with my brother, and his girlfriend and met a few other friends there.  It was absolutely packed, but it was rather busy.

The thing that got me is that nobody was paying attention for crap.  Yeah I get it, everyone else is more important right?  Well to top it off, I must have been damn near run over by strollers.  I realize I am not a parent, but that doesnt automatically give you importance over me.  We get it, you have a kid, and now that you do we all have to suffer right?

Perhaps I am a bit bitter, because its always about protecting the kid.  Sorry, protecting your kids is YOUR job, not the job of our government, but perhaps I will save that rant for a future podcast.

Speaking of podcasts, a new episode is coming sometime today or tomorrow.  It’s my Birthday today, so I might not get around to it, and I do have a bit of homework I must do for a class tomorrow, but we shall see if I can find the time to give a podcast update in there at somepoint.

So obviously, school is back in session.  Not sure how that is going to affect the blogging, but I’m sure I will cut back a bit, who knows.  I guess it all depends on how much interesting stuff I have to share, or how bad something pisses me off ;) .

So far, I like all my instructors.  I have 4 classes, and the homework load looks a bit on the heavy side.  I am also applying for both a workstudy position, and a tutoring position.  Hey as long as it doesn’t involve browning meat, I should be OK ;)

I’ve got a slight rant to do about the Minnesota State Fair, which I went to last weekend, but right now I am tired of being in front of a computer, so I am gonna go find something else to do.  I’ll post that sometime here soon, I promise, but today is my 12+ hour day, so I’m just physically and mentally wiped out.

In this episode, I talk about my feelings regarding the pending XM/Sirius merger, as well as the new XM Channel 2 – XMX.  I also touch on sound quality, but most of the time is spent looking at the pending merger from a consumer standpoint in depth.

So, a few days ago now, I talked a bit about my plans for the next few weekends, but I have changed those plans slightly.  Originally, I was supposed to go to a family reunion today, but I decided to sit that one out.  I mean, I have quite a bit going on, and just didn’t feel up to going to a family reunion, especially since I don’t know most of the family.

Also, I had originally said that I was going to the state fair with a group of friends on Monday, but being that it will be my first day of classes, I don’t want to feel rushed in getting back home, or rushed in getting to class, so I am instead going tomorrow with my brother, and I am meeting a few friends of mine there, as I have one that is going with his family and a few of his friends are going to meet him there as well.

As far as next weekend goes, I know for sure I am at least going to do some of the events, but I am not sure if I am going to do them all.  Alot depends on whether I can get discounted tickets to Ren fest, because paying full price can be a bit daunting, especially when your a full time student.  I’m going to the pool party on Friday, and the BBQ on Monday for sure, and most likely the Drive-In on Sunday, depending on if I can keep up the pace (these guys are insane LOL).

Anyways, school starts Monday, so the blog posts might slow down a bit.  Im uploading the podcast for this week right now, and should have that posted within the next hour or two.  It turned out a bit better than the last one, but I’m still getting used to it.

Yeah, so I haven’t decided yet when the regular date for publication is on my podcast, but I do have another episode coming either tomorrow or Sunday.  I’m thinking new episdoes will be posted either Friday or Sunday on an ongoing basis.

In other news, the NAACP has enraged me (I’m not racist, but the fact that they have done so would make some believe that I automaticaly am).  They are defending a dog killer based soley on the fact that he is black.  Sorry guys, if he was white the SAME thing would have happened, if not slightly worse.  We don’t have an NAAWP to come to our support when stuff like this happens.  And when you say things like “Many many people love my dick” mistake or not, it doesn’t help.  And the fact is, supporting dog killing doesn’t help the advancement of colored people (which is just an outdated name, perhaps its time for a change of that as well?)

At any rate, their are definitely better uses of your time, such as promoting better educational systems in prominently black areas, I would think that would better serve the advancement of blacks.  With regards to Michael being suspended by the NFL for a year or more, I’m not so sure that was the right course of action, although I wonder what my employer would do if they found out something like this had happened with me.  I don’t think that in reality what you do should affect your professional life, but there are limits to such things.  I think really what the NFL is doing is trying to set an example of him by saying that NFL stars don’t live above the law, but at the same time, provided he is not in jail he should THEORETICALLY be allowed to play.

But, on the other side of the issue yet again, this could be the NFL taking a “wait to see the verdict” type thing, and not wanting that to affect sales of stuff in our way over-sensative society.  I would love to bring up the arguement that if I were caught writing computer viruses that I would be fired, but that would directly relate to my job/career path whereas this did not affect the ability for him to do his job.

But, swapping sides again, many companies would fire you for drug use or felony convictions.  Is this a felony conviction?  (I am asking because honestly I don’t know)  That brings up another good arguement in where we draw the lines between personal life and professional life.  How much SHOULD your personal life affect your professional life, and at what points?  People do make mistakes, even if they don’t recognize them right away.  By that I mean that later on down the line he may really recognize this and want to make it right.  I mean I certainly don’t want to be punished forever for my past mistakes, but they have caused me to get fired, or lose my job too.

Or am I completely missing the point, and are people in the public eye just held to a higher standard?  Because if that were the case, I would think that our own President, and many other government officials shoud lose their jobs too, or face a simular suspension.  But, I suppose we shouldn’t be suprised.  When you hire a salesperson to run the country as we Americans did, your bound to get lied to, and if that costs thousands of innocent lives so be it, right?  We shouldn’t hold government to the same standards as a private individual because that would involve questioning the government which we have already determined is bad. ;)

Mood : cheerful

So, as summer comes to a close for me (yeah I realize officially it doesn’t end until the third week in September, and being from Minnesota it could end weather wise any time between now and October) I am definitely staying busier than I thought I would be.

Yesterday, of course, was my lunch date with Rose, which she paid for.  Always a shock and always hard to accept having someone else pay for me, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.  Then tonight its off to OCB with Rose, John, and Mike for dinner and cards, that should be fun!

I’m still keeping tomorrow open, and Friday all I have is therapy, but thats OK too, because the family reunion is Saturday and it will have to be rather early.  I’m looking forward to that, because me and my stepbrother are riding together, and I haven’t seen him in a few years.  Friday I will be doing a thorough job cleaning my car, because I think we are taking that up there (and its never fun to ride in trash for a few hours).

Hopefully Saturday I will get home a bit early, so I can try to put myself on a regular sleeping schedule before Monday.  My other friend started school today (yeah, on a Wednesday, what timing is that?!?!) so he has already started feeling the pain of a busy schedule.  Perhaps Monday I will sit out the State Fair, I’m not quite sure how the money situation is going to look then, with all this other stuff going on.
